Tales From 2nd Street
A good story lures then captivates us with elements of Conflict, Struggle and Resolution. We want to know what happened, how it happened and how it was resolved. It could be "ripped from the headlines," or something that Uncle Al told us at the dinner table on Thanksgiving. "TALES" will present vignettes from the lives of ordinary people as well as original tales of fiction. Let us know what you think about our work. Contact us at: dougs2ndst@gmail.com. Tales From 2nd Street
Father Lou, "The Chambersburg Linguist"
Many centuries ago, a young, homeless couple once traveled a great distance in order to fulfil a government mandate. The girl is in the later stages of her pregnancy. She and her spouse are exhausted and desperate for a place to rest. They stopped at an Inn and pleaded their case with the inn keeper who insists he is booked. As a last resort, he offers them space for them and their donkey in his barn behind thr inn. A beggar also seeking refuge from the cold, is resting against the bricks warmed by the day's heat. He too is in desperate straits, but shows little compassion for the couple. He complains to Joseph and Mary that he is an honest man trying to sleep, and asks them to keep quiet and move on. The couple presented here, modern travellers, Joey and Kelly, reminded me of that scene; homeless and desperate feeling rejected and disconnected in their new location. Fortunately, they had far more resources available to them. Listen to their story.
